Counsellors, their Qualifications and the Legislation.
Karinya’s counsellors and psychologists are all qualified, registered with their professional body and Christian. They are also selected for their experience and personal gifts in relating with and responding to a diverse client base.
Karinya complies with all legislation regarding the professional conduct of its staff, volunteers and counsellors. This is maintained by applying a number of measures to ensure the safety of all clients and children in their care; including Working with Children Checks and Police Checks.
Glen Waverley

Ruth Walker
B Sc, Dip Ed, B Ed, Cert Pastoral Counselling. CCAA (Clinical, Supervisor) PACFA Reg.
Ruth has an extensive background in teaching, counselling in schools, the community and leading wellness programs. She has been counselling for many years, leading seminars and now leads the team of counsellors at Karinya. The issues of teenagers and their families, depression and the wide range of hurt that people struggle with are her areas of interest. She is experienced in crisis debriefing and mediation and does some life coaching. She is a clinical counsellor registered with CCAA and PACFA and a registered supervisor with CCAA.

Maureen Ireland
Masters in Counselling, Grad Dip Couns., Dip. SFT, Certified Focusing Professional, Trained MBTI, Couple Counsellor, Mediator.
She has been counselling for 28 years, runs workshops and supported the profession for 9 years as President of CCAA. She likes working with Couples, Families, communication, sexual issues, depression, anxiety and supervision and groups. She has specialised training in Focusing which opens up ways of listening to the body and learning from what it has to teach us. She is a Clinical Counsellor with CCAA and PACFA, and registered Supervisor.

Vicki Hughes
B Arts(psych), BSc (Hons) (psychophys) Grad Dip (Couns), Grad Cert (Soc. Sci Family Therapy).
Vicki has been counselling for 8 years in a variety of settings ranging from schools, churches, and community based centres. Whilst having experience in a wide range of clinical issues, she particularly enjoys working with the spectrum of eating disorders, OCD, trauma, and family of origin issues. She is registered with the Australian Counsellors Association at Level 2.

Annette Turnbull

Prepare and Enrich Facilitator
Annette is married to Michael; they have four married adult children and six grandchildren.
Annette has special interest in relationship and personal counselling for individuals, couples, adolescents and children.
Issues include: grief/loss, self-esteem, anxiety, depression and anger management.
Annette is a Prepare and Enrich Educator and debriefing facilitator for aid/mission workers. She offers children’s Play Therapy.

Karen Macaulay
BA (Counselling)
Dip. Counselling and Family Therapy
Karen has had extensive experience over the last five years working in a school setting, counselling adolescents within the age group of 15 – 19 years old.
She has a particular interest in issues concerning adolescents, anxiety, depression, difficult life circumstances, grief and loss, and counselling within a culturally diverse setting.
Karen draws on a wide range of therapeutic approaches including person centred therapy, narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy and CBT. She is looking forward to working with adults, families and couples. She is registered with CCAA.

Kerryl Beissel
BSc(Hons) (Psych), MAPS, MCCOUNP
Kerryl is a psychologist with extensive experience in the counselling field. Her work includes management and treatment of anxiety, depression, trauma and stress. Her areas of interest also include recovery from burnout, coping with chronic illness and improving communication and relationships. She works with adults of all ages. She draws on a range of therapeutic approaches, including cognitive behavioural therapy. Kerryl is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
Administration

Jeanne Browning
Bachelor of Education (Primary School), Diploma of Accounting.
Jeanne has experience in Educational Leadership and was the Information Technology Co-ordinator at a Primary School for a number of years. A career change saw her complete a Diploma of Accounting and she has now worked in the office at Karinya for the last four years in both the Administration and Finance areas.
